Karen B. Looman, DO, attended the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine from Kirksville, MO, and received her medical degree in 1998. Furthermore, she conducted her residency in pathology at the Eastern Virginia Medical School (2006). In addition, she completed her fellowship training in forensic pathology at the Tidewater Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (2008). Dr. Looman received board certification in pathology from the American Board of Pathology. Prior to medical school, she attended Hope College in Holland, MI, where she graduated in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Chemistry. Forensic pathology is pathology that focuses on determining the cause of death by examining a corpse. A forensic pathologist is someone who investigates the cause of sudden and unexpected deaths and can provide evidence in court regarding the cause and time of such deaths. She maintains memberships with the National Association of Medical Examiners and the College of American Pathologists and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Science.
